About the Instructors

Susan Talkmitt

Susan Talkmitt is the associate director of curriculum and instruction for the T-STEM Center. Susan has developed model curriculum and presented hundreds of workshops across the nation. In recognition of her contributions to K-12 science education, she received the 2007 Skoog Cup from the Science Teachers Association of Texas.

As an instructor in the College of Education, Susan teaches science methods courses for secondary and elementary pre-service teachers as well as a secondary education curriculum course. She is also an associate director of the Center for the Integration of Science and Education Research (CISER) at Texas Tech University.

This is Susan's second year to train teachers with the T-STEM Center.

John Chandler

John Chandler is a director of the T-STEM Center at Texas Tech. With over 10 years of experience doing K-12 education outreach, John has encouraged thousands of students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

John is a member of the board of directors for the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering and also serves on the engineering working group for the review of the science Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

This is John's seventh year to train K-12 teachers at Texas Tech.

Doug Hamman

Doug Hamman is an assistant professor in the College of Education and the assessment coordinator for the T-STEM Center. A self-proclaimed digital immigrant, Doug enjoys using technology and helping others learn. Students frequently describe the digital learning projects in his courses as the most important learning activity of their college education.

In addition to teaching, Doug likes discovering new ways to mash up technology with classroom learning (he's currently tackling podcasting).

This is Doug's second summer to train teachers with the T-STEM Center.
