South Plains Math & Science Competition
A Math & Science Competition as Big as the South Plains
Join schools from across West Texas for the South Plains Math & Science Competition. This year’s competition will be held Saturday, November 15, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. in Holden Hall on the Texas Tech campus.
The annual event is open to all student in grades 6-12. The event is free - so any school can compete without having to worry about paying for registration fees and lunches.
Each contest tests students’ abilities in core math and science subject areas. Students get tested on what they’re learning in the classroom, and all of the contests are TEKS-based. Plus the content and format make for great U.I.L. academic meet practice.
Competition Format
The competition is divided into math, science and engineering contests, with students competing within their grade level.
Math and science contests challenge students abilities in timed, multiple choice exams, while the engineering design challenge tests students problem solving skills through a hands-on design problem.
Registration
There is no registration fee for this event.
Schools interested in participating in the competition should download a registration form.
Completed registration forms should be faxed to the T-STEM Center at 806.742.3493.
All registrations must be received by October 29, 2008, so that we can make final preparations for your team. Unfortunately we cannot accept late registrations.
If you need guest accommodations for yourself and your students, please contact the T-STEM Center for information
